RESTAURANT MARKETING

SADLY, YOUR RESTAURANT MARKETING PROBABLY SUCKS

Let me save you from bad marketing

Why does most restaurant marketing suck?  I'm pretty sure it's a combination of two important factors:

  1. Running a restaurant (especially if you're a chef / owner) is a 20 hour a day job.  Who has time to do marketing?
  2. Chefs and restaurateurs have never studied marketing and if they have, they usually put all of their marketing "eggs" in the basket of concept development.  Independent restaurants account for slightly more than half of all US restaurants.  These are typically mom & pop operations started by untrained professionals.  If you're a fan of the Food network TV show Restaurant Impossible, you probably know that almost every single episode starts with Robert Irvine discovering the owners have zero experience running a restaurant.  They almost always also have few resources to sustain lower traffic.

Restaurants are the ultimate local business and as such, should be using low cost Local Marketing tactics to put more butts in seats.  Restaurants are also my favorite type of business to help.  I grew up in a restaurant family where my dad was a general manager at a fairly large regional chain working 100 hour weeks.  My first three jobs were in restaurants as a dishwasher, and busboys. I'm a foodie at heart and love how food connects us with friends and family. Restaurants are good for neighborhoods, both econoically and culturally.  If I can help a neighbor family sustain their restaurant, it's at the top of my efforts and goals.
